Kindred shows our connection to our past. Octavia Butler wrote ahead of her time. Now we hear lots of conversations about past lives and people interrupting the timeline to help ancestors; Butler wrote about this in the 80s.
We hear Butler say that she is not writing the future, just ways that we can prevent a future. She is writing a future and we have to wonder have we listened enough to circumvent that future or did we exacerbate stories like Dawn.
I guess we will know soon if we have passed up the future she wrote. We already see the homelessness on the rise. We see food shortages and power outages. We see that we have to depend on our families and friends because no one is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves.
